Okie Spot of the Month:

Illinois River in eastern Oklahoma is located just east of Tahlequah.  The upper part of the Illinois River flows from just north of Watts at the Oklahoma-Arkansas border to Lake Tenkiller.  This section of the river is a popular summertime float trip destination.  There are many canoe and raft rentals spots available.  The upper Illinois River is also a great fishing stream for bass, catfish, perch, and crappie.  The lower section of the Illinois River flows from the Lake Tenkiller dam to the Arkansas River.  This part of the river has cool water and some serious fishing.  Rainbow trout and brown trout are found in the lower Illinois River, as well as trophy striped bass (striper).  In the summertime the striper run up in this cool water and feed on the trout and shad.
